Story of "Spanish Lady"

I began to write this song one day after coming back from the laundry mat. At the time, I was living in a small apt. by myself and was just going to lay down for a little while when I couldn't get the beat out of my head. It was sort of what is called reggaetone beat, not what I call it, but what it is called today. Next came the images as I began to try to get a little nap. Next thing you know, I had to keep writing the words to the "scene" in my head and the beat. Strummed a few cords and had the rhythm for most of the verses. Finally got some rest and then later, edited and tweaked out the rest of the music and lyrics. I played every instrument on this song and was really excited to get the perfect sound for the keys using a Korg Triton Keyboard at the Soundtank Studio in Northfield. It was especially cool making up the bass line for this song on the jamming part at the end. I used the theory of what I liked about the Eagles Hotel California to come up with a bass line that is different than just the root notes of the song and a bass line that would "stand on it's own" and sound like a song itself when played by itself. It was very cool and rewarding figuring out a nice bass line for this song. The lead guitar was fun too as I shot for a sort of Carlos Santana sounding lead. I have stroyboarded a script for a video but am having difficulty rounding up the "cast". Maybe someday...
